Kate Clark is a Women in PR committee member and founder of KCPR who sits on the Women in PR Campaigns team – a team which realised that the issue of ageism in the UK PR industry is particularly pertinent to women. This year we launched our ‘WPR 45 Over 45’ campaign, starting with a survey polling 218 women to discover that a third (34%) of the women working in PR that we spoke to have experienced ageism in the workplace and over half (52%) of those under the age of 50 don’t see themselves working in the same part of the comms industry they currently work in when they reach 50. WPR champions equality and progress for senior women in PR in the UK with a remit to increase the number and diversity of women in leadership roles in comms – and support them to reach their full potential. So, our ‘WPR 45 Over 45’ List will be the first-of-its-kind to feature the women who are inspiring the next generation of women leaders and shaping a brighter future for the sector.
Kate brings over 25 years’ experience as a strategic brand, and corporate PR specialist for major global companies including Clarins, L’Oreal and P&G (at Ketchum). Now as an independent, her teams of PR freelancers – often feature senior older consultants. Kate believes that older women in the workplace have a position to play as role models – as well as offering experience and a broad perspective on life. Ageism is one of the last diversity ‘isms’ to be given the attention it deserves!
